JayLift Paratransit

JayLift is complementary paratransit service for students who are unable to ride fixed route buses due to a temporary injury or mobility-related condition, to get to and from class or class-related activities.

In order to use JayLift, students must contact Disability Resources, and faculty and staff should contact HREO (see blue box at right). To be certified, documentation of the temporary or permanent disability must be provided by a qualified professional (e.g. doctor, social worker) and should include:

  • Type of injury or disability
  • Duration of need for JayLift service
  • Ambulatory devices (e.g. cane, walker, wheelchair)

Once certified, JayLift passengers may schedule rides from their home anywhere inside the city limits to and/or across campus between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. on classes days. After 6 p.m. until 10:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and on weekdays when classes are not in session, passengers may schedule rides that originate within ¾ mile of campus.

Students who are certified to use JayLift may use the service to attend non-class-related events on campus with special approval provided on a case by case basis (co-curricular rides).

Persons with qualifying disabilities are also encouraged to look into Lawrence Transit System's T Lift services. Information is available at www.lawrencetransit.org.
