JayLift Policies

Eligibility for JayLift Service

Students may ride the JayLift service if the Academic Achievement and Access Center determines that they have a disability that prevents them from boarding, riding, or disembarking the regular KU on Wheels buses, prevents them from walking a quarter mile (1/4) to a bus stop, or prevents them from waiting at a bus stop for ten (10) minutes.

If students have a permanent disability, they must provide adequate disability-related documentation, according to ADA documentation standards for post-secondary education, to the Academic Access and Achievement Center. Students may ride the JayLift service temporarily if they have a temporary disability that prevents them from performing the aforementioned activities or makes them unable to use their usually mode of transportation and they do not live on a bus route. Temporary riders can ride for two (2) weeks without documentation from a doctor. JayLift service is not available for non students.

JayLift Passes

Both permanent and temporary JayLift users must have a KU on Wheels bus pass, pay $10.00 a week for a temporary bus pass, or pay $1.00 per ride. Students may receive one free ride to the KU Parking & Transit office to buy a bus pass.

Rides

All rides must originate and terminate within the city limits of Lawrence, Kansas.

Students may schedule their rides between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. during the days on which JayLift operates. Ride requests must be made at least 24 hours in advance in order to ensure a ride. (Emergency or last-minute requests will be incorporated as the JayLift schedule permits.) Students should call 864-5438(LIFT) to schedule a ride.

If a student needs to cancel a ride, he or she should call the dispatcher twenty-four (24) hours before the ride was scheduled. JayLift will wait no longer than five (5) minutes after the scheduled pick-up time. If a student misses his or her ride, all subsequent rides for that day are canceled. If a student misses two (2) rides without twenty-four (24) hour notice and for non-medical reason may be removed from the schedule by Academic Achievement and Access Center.
